Memphis Grizzlies

Vegas Over/Under: 37.5

The Record Projection: 37-45 of fromal The Bet: Prevent but lean under
The Memphis Grizzlies are baffling.
For years, they’ve outperformed their underlying metrics since their grit-and-grind style allowed them to win close games more frequently than other squads. That devotion to defensive excellence and physical drama became synonymous with those Beale Street inhabitants.
However, what happens?
Vince Carter and Zach Randolph have defected into the Sacramento Kings. Tony Allen and JaMychal Green stay free agents, and there’s no telling whether they will go back to their old stomping grounds for 2017-18. The roster feels more than it has in prior years depleted.
And yet, Mike Conley and Marc Gasol are still current. So long as the team’s two best players remain in the same uniform, they’ll be undeniably competitive on the two ends of the ground. Each deserves to be in the All-Star mix year in and year out, and they’ve taken over because the Grizzlies’ true leaders.
Is that sufficient? Can Memphis supplement both stars’ efforts?
Betting on the Grizzlies falling entirely from the playoff conversation would be absurd, wherever they end up in the Western hierarchy. However, the chances seem much longer this time around.
